Ramza Beoulve

Ramza Beoulve is the son of Balbanes, brother of Alma, and half-brother to Zalbag and Dycedarg. His best friend is a commoner named Delita, who has lived with the Beoulves since they were young. Due to Balbanes' influence Ramza and Delita both were enrolled in the military academy as cadets and that's where Ramza had his first run in with the Death Corps. Shortly after his first skirmish, Balbanes finally succumbs to his illness and dies. Afterwards against the orders of Dycedarg, Ramza helps sabatoge Death Corps. activity to rescue Mesdoram Elmdor, who had been kidnapped. Having no other choice Dycedarg includes him in his bid to destroy the Death Corps, the operation is successful though with a high price. The high price Ramza pays is losing his best friend, discovering the dark secrets of his family, and being outcasted from the Hokuten itself. Initially he tries to conceal his identity and joins Gafgarion's gang of mercenaries. This plan ends up backfiring and after Ramza sees that Delita is infact alive, he has no choice but to stop running and right what he sees as wrong. Ramza embarks on a quest of justice to right Ivalice isolating himself from the Church and making him a target of human and demon alike.

Delita Hyral

Delita and Ramza had met when they were young and had been lifelong friends ever since. Delita's parents died to the plague when he was young so the only remaining family member he had was his sister, Teta. Balbanes took both of them in and also enrolled Delita in the same Academy as Ramza as well as enrolling Teta in the same school as Alma. Shortly after Balbanes' death, the Death Corps try to assassinate Dycedarg and fail. Believing Teta to be a Beoulve, they take her hostage to ensure an escape and a possible ransom. At Fort Zeakden, the last stand of the Death Corps, Zalbag orders Algus to shoot Teta so the last of the members could be exposed and killed. This is the turning point for both Delita and Ramza, with this event strongly traumatizing Delita. In a fit of rage, Delita kills Algus and goes to his sister as the fort blows up. With Delita seemingly dead, Ramza flees and dumps his identity to eventually begin his own quest for justice. Teta, with her last bit of strength had actually shielded and saved Delita, and afterwards Delita swore to avenge Teta's death by obtaining power to make sure it could never happen again. He became a knight under Goltana's forces manipulating and taking advantage of every opportunity he was presented with to get more power - even as far as working with the church as well as plotting behind the church and Goltana both. As Delita rose in power, so did his desire to obtain it, and this slowly transitions him into becoming the very person he had sworn to stop.

Bestrada Larg

Bestrada Larg is the Lord of Gallione, brother of Queen Ruvelia of the Omdolia Kingdom. The Larg family is a part of the Atkascha Kingdom, who gained power from the Fifty Year War. With Omdolia's illness getting worse at the end of the Fifty Years War, Larg and his sister had hatched a plan in order to maintain rule over Ivalice. The king and queen still had a young son, Prince Orinas, who was an infant. Larg first meets Ramza after Gustav is killed and the Marquis Elmdor is rescued. While Dycedarg ridiculed Ramza, Larg praised him saying that he may prove to be useful in events that would eventual transpire. After Omdolia's death, Larg would declare Orinas the heir to the throne and Larg would be his reagent, thus making him the ruler of Ivalice. Larg initially had Princess Ovelia abducted to silence any objection to Orinas holding the throne as well as weakening Goltana's political position, but it backfired. Thanks to the efforts of Delita Larg's plot was foiled and Goltana moved in to claim Ovelia as the ruler of Ivalice with him being her reagent, thus igniting the Lion War.

Druksmald Goltana

Druksmald Goltana is the Lord of Zeltennia. Like the Larg family, the Goltana family has been part of the Denamunda Kingdom since the Fifty Year War. Goltana was in command of the Nanten Knights with Orlandu the leading general under him (parallelled with Balbanes leading the Hokuten knights under Larg). Goltana is also known as the "Prince of the Black Lions", due to his family crest, taken from the double headed crest of the Kingdom. Seeing Omdolia near death, Goltana also has plans to become the ruler of Ivalice. By proclaiming Ovelia as ruler of Ivalice, Goltana can disrupt Larg's claim to power and then keep Ovelia confined in Zeltennia so he can actually be the real ruler of Ivalice. Thanks to Delita foiling Larg's plot, Goltana is able to make his move to hail Ovelia as the heir to the throne, initiating the Lion War. Although Goltana may not be as underhanded as Larg to obtain his goals he is certainly less moral, as he shows no concern for Ovelia or for the people he taxes to support his bid for power.

Dycedarg Beoulve

Dycedarg is Ramza's oldest half-brother and is an extreamly powerful fighter. He was a leader of the Hokuten under his father, Balbanes, during the Fifty Years War. As his father's illness worsens he takes command of the Hokuten and fights under Larg personally. As per Balbanes' dying wish, Dycedarg hands over the reigns of the Hokuten to Zalbag. After Balbanes dies, Dycedarg inherits the Beoulve estate. Already well in motion, Dycedarg has schemed and plots to cause political upheaval so he can eventually rule Ivalice (although he works with Larg feigning to make sure Larg will be the king). He bribes Gustav to attack a carivan guarding Mesdoram Elmdor and kidnap him, giving the Hokuten a reason to destroy the Death Corps, as well as maybe having Elmdor killed (Elmdor was in league with Goltana so this would certainly help Larg). When Ramza spoils it he's frustrated, but his intent to get rid of the Death Corps can still be carried out. After the battle at Fort Zeakden, Dycedarg hires Gafgarion to pose as a mercenary for two reasons. One is to keep Ramza in line (although Ramza is unaware of this) and kill him if need be; the other is to feign allegience to Ovelia and eventually kill her when the opportunity presents itself. Dycedarg's plans are foiled again and when the Lion War goes underway he continues to plot and plan to create an opportunity for himself to finally control Ivalice.

Zalbag Beoulve

Zalbag is Ramza's older half-brother and the second oldest of Balbanes' children. He is an Arc Knight, with fearsome capabilities as proven during the Fifty Years War, even more skilled with the sword than Dycedarg - close to rivaling his father's and T.G. Cid. At the request of Balbanes, Zalbag took command of the Hokuten after Dycedarg stepped down. Zalbag is a man who has a strong resolve in his honor and the Beoulve name. After ordering Algus to kill both Golgaros and Teta he leaves Fort Zeakden shamed, heading back to Lesalia Imperial Capital. He is a true soldier, asking very little questions and making little inquiries until he has no choice, and follows along with Dycedarg and Larg's plans during the Fifty Years War. Due to Ramza's divergence from the family Zalbag is very dubious of him, but not out of reasoning. Ramza attempts to persuade Zalbag of how truly unhonorable Dycedarg truly is and through Dycedarg's actions, Zalbag's resolve in believing he is doing the right thing slowly erodes away.

Cidolfas Orlandu

Cidolfas is also referred to as Thundergod Cid, due to his fearsome skills in battle. He leads the Nanten Knights under Goltana, just as Zalbag leads the Hokuten Knights under Larg. Orlandu is one of the strongest fighters alive, rivalling Balbanes (they were both pretty much equals). Balbanes and Orlandu work alongside of each other during the Fifty Years War, and they developed a friendship. After Balbanes death, it seems to be obvious that Orlandu doesn't keep in touch with the new leaders of the Hokuten. Regardless of their relationship, Cid is employed by Goltana during the Lion War to lead the Nanten Knights to victory, and plans to do so on his own honor as a knight.

Alma Beoulve

Alma is Ramza's younger sister and is closer to Ramza than with her other brothers. Like Ramza and Delita were best friends, Alma is best friends with Teta and both her and Teta attend the same upperclass school together thanks to Balbanes. People at their school have harrassed Teta due to her not being nobility, but Alma has defended her and made sure that it hasn't been too bad for Teta. After Teta's murdered and the events of Fort Zeakden unfold, Alma heads back to Lesalia Imperial Capital with Zalbag. She remains there until Ramza arrives with a futile effort to convince Zalbag of Dycedarg's plot. Alma, caring for Ramza convinces him to allow her to join him in his persuit of justice.

Ovelia Atkascha

Ovelia is the adopted princess of Queen Ruvelia and King Omdolia and has spent most of her life out of the eye of royalty and nobles and in the Orbonne Monastery. When Omdolia's sickness becomes terminal, her status becomes much more important. Larg wants her dead, so he can have Orinas as a puppet ruler while he leads, and Goltana wants her proclaimed heir and caged in Zeltennia, so that he can lead Ivalice as her reagent. After the attempt on her life is revealed, Queen Ruvelia is dethroned and imprisoned in Bethla Garrison while Larg claims Orinas as heir while Goltana claims Ovelia as heir. Ovelia's life seems to be just a card for others to use against themselves in politics while she has very little say or control over anything she does.

Vormav Tingel

Vormav seems to be the defacto leader of the Temple Knights working under Marge Funeral to help manipulate the events and outcome of the Lion War. He is very cold and cares little for others, as shown by his blatant disregard for his children. Vormav has another side to him though, possibly leading to these harsh characteristics. He is possessed by the Lucavi Hashmalum, and is conveniently the leader of the Lucavi trying to ressurect St. Ajora, the "Bloody Angel". As for who Vormav was before he was possessed never comes to light, although due to the circumstances of Lucavis working with their hosts at one point Vormav must've been on the brink of death or died in battle. Regardless, Vormav is extremely ruthless and powerful and has killed hundreds, perhaps even thousands of people before Ramza starts meddling in his affairs.

Wiegraf Folles

During the Fifty Years War, Wiegraf was the leader of the Death Knights, who were lower-middle and lower class soldiers. After the end of the war, the commoners were cast aside by the nobles while their lands lied in ruin and their poverty worsened. Wiegraf founded the Death Corps, which ultimately turned out to be a group of thugs and bandits. The ideal of the Death Corps was to ultimately cause enough political upheaval that the common class would gain more influence while weakening the influence of nobility, possibly opening the way for a more socialist governing of Ivalice, instead of a monarchial one. Due to instability within the Corps, they're eventually destroyed by the Hokuten. When Wiegraf discovers that Ramza kills Miluda (Wiegraf's sister), he abandons what's left of the Death Corps and joins the Temple Knights in his plot for revenge against Ramza and to avenge his sister. He gains power as a Temple Knight and loses sight of the socially equal ideals he once held dear.

Gaff Gafgarion

Gafgarion was the leader of the Tuten Knights during the Fifty Year War. His leadership was short lived though as he was forced out of the knights due to his brutal fighting style. Afterwards he began to seek employment as a mercenary, kidnapping and murdering whoever he was paid to take care of, with no care other than for the money and thrill of fighting. He leads the mercenary group that Ramza ends up joining. Unknown to Ramza of course, Gafgarion has been hired by Dycedarg to watch over Ramza, and kill him if need be. He's also been assigned to eventually kill Princess Ovelia. Although his intentions are clouded through feigned loyalty through payment, Gafgarion doesn't hesitate to show his disrespect or carelessness about Agrias, Ovelia, and the others.

Agrias Oaks

Agrias Oaks is Princess Ovelia's personal bodyguard and protects her at any possible cost, even if it means her life. Sometime after the disaster at Fort Zeakden, Agrias hires Gaff Gafgarion and his mercenaries (who Ramza is employed under) to help defend Ovelia from rising pressure and threats from Larg's Hokuten. Not long after meeting Agrias Ramza also witnesses that Delita is infact still alive, as he is the one who kidnaps Ovelia right under Agrias' watch while they're defending the church from Hokuten attackers. Delita hands Ovelia over after being cornered by the Hokuten and warns that Agrias won't be able to defend her. After Ovelia is kidnapped again Agrias relegates herself to aiding Ramza in his cause.

Algus Sadalfas

Algus is a noble whose family lost power during the Fifty Years War. His grandfather sold out his platoon to gain freedom, and was later murdered by a cadet. This story got out and had severe reprocussions against his family's honor. He is trying to gain respect and power back for his family by becoming a knight. He was traveling as a cadet with the Marquis Elmdor when they were attacked by the Death Corps. He was saved by Ramza and Delita and joins them briefly but due to his inherent disdain for commoners and his loud mouth Delita punches him out and Ramza tells him to go away. He's later seen at Fort Zeakden when Ramza continues his persuit with Delita to rescue Teta. After murdering Teta he taunts Delita and tells him that commoners are nothing but sheep meant to be used however the nobles pleased. This enrages Delita and shatters his ideals/sentiments of reality completely, and Algus loses his life to the hands of Delita. Algus' death serves only as the beginning of the path Delita eventually takes to turn just as cruel and careless as the nobles themselves.

Mustadio Bunanza

Mustadio is an engineer in Goug working under his father, Besrodio. He first meets Ramza while he was running away from mercenaries hired by the Bart Company. He found one of the holy stones with his father in Goug and is now being hunted for it. Draclau is the person behind the Bart Company harrassing him, and he intends to use the stone in the Lucavi's plot to ressurect the Bloody Angel. After Ramza helps Mustadio rescue his father, Mustadio joins Ramza on his quest and serves to help off and on with later events that transpire.
